Human Resources Departments like to focus on "total compensation packages" taking into account health insurance, vacation, retirement plans, etc. while employees are much more likely to focus on the actual salary amount.
I recently wrote an entry that mentioned (as part of a larger concept) focusing on salary over perks. However, not everyone agrees that pure salary increases are the best way to incentivize employees.
In fact, did you know that there is one (at least) entire trade show devoted to finding "business solutions to motivate people" as their tagline states on their website? If this interests you, you are in luck! The trade show takes place next week from September 26-28 in Chicago.
You can learn more and register at The Motivation Show. Even if you can't attend, the website has numerous articles on many aspects of the discussion as well as a search feature if you want to source motivational products.
Please share what kinds of incentives are used in your Purchasing Department.
