People have been telling you to use the Internet in Purchasing for yours. I reminded you myself with last month's entries Using The Internet In Pucrhasing - Part 1 and Part 2. Part 2 mentioned creating a website for vendors that contained Procurement Department policies and contacts.
That same information (and more) belongs on your company's INTRANET.
Don't worry if you aren't familiar with the term. The word "intranet" simply means a private or restricted computer network usually belonging to a corporation or organization. Intranet material is created with the same software and viewed with the same browsers as Internet material. The only difference is that there is no way for someone outside your company to access the pages.
Building an effective Purchasing intranet means including the information that your end users need to serve them better and also reduce administrative strain on the Sourcing Department.
In addition to the aforementioned policies and contacts, you should also include any forms and proceduresthat users need to conduct business with the Procurement Department.
It wouldn't hurt departmental public relations if you included biographies and pictures of personnel.
This is also a good place for mission statements and newsletter (including archives) about important happenings in the department that affect the whole company.
Finally, don't be afraid to brag a little either. Include savings information and let everyone know how Sourcing contributes to the company's bottom line.
