How long have you been online? Think back, when did you get your first AOL - now part of Time Warner Inc. (TWX) - account? Remember all those business mazgazine articles about the Internet was going to revolutionize the way all business took place?
How are you using the Internet in your Purchasing Department? Let's count the ways you could be using it.
- Research - Find potential vendors, even those close by, that you never knew existed.
- More Research - Use the Net to learn everything you can about a new line of business with which your company wants to get involved or to which you have been assigned. Need to learn about call centers for example, check out Call Center Information.
- Online ordering - Stop faxing PO's (or at least use the software to fax them online). Beyond that, place orders right in the vendor's ordering system. This reduces keying errors.
See Part 2 for more ways to use the Internet in the Purchasing Department and feel free to add some suggestions to the list.
