Remember back in high school when you came to that fateful debate of whether it was time to dump your boyfriend or girlfriend? Remember how your friends all had their opinions, but you had to wonder if they had their own agendas? You agonized over the decision, didn't you?
Well, guess what - the more things change, the more they stay the same because the decision to drop, or "dump" a vendor is not going to be any easier than it was in high school. In fact, it is going to be more difficult because this time, the impact of the decision will be long lasting and important. (You only thought that it was important back then!)
If you are struggling with replacing a non-performing or under-performing vendor, don't get caught in the analysis paralysis trap in which you think about it so much that you actually take no action.
I have found over the years that if you think it is time to replace a supplier, than it probably is. If you are facing this decision right now, then this entry and the next one are for you. If you are not facing such a decision right now, you will be at some time in the future so file them away for reference.
In part 2, I'll offer some tips to help you get through the process.
