With all the unrest in the world, (both political and weather related) it's no wonder that articles on supply chain security are showing up because it is an issue on Buyers' minds.
The article has five different bullet points, but there is one that I want to focus on. It says, "Improved non-intrusive container inspection technology."
Having recently crossed a border on vacation, I can say that I observed that almost every car was waved through with no inspection at all. (What would it be like to attempt to cross a border if every car had to be searched thoroughly?) If that is what happens with people in transit, imagine customs agents trying to examine millions of sealed containers of every size and shape.
The physical, manual inspection of the millions of containers that cross borders is an absolute possibility. Both logically and logistically, technology is the where the future lies in this discussion.
If baggage and luggage can be fully screened at airports via machine (with only suspicious articles then being searched manually), the technology exists for us to truly have Superman's X-Ray vision. That's what we need to be using at borders for goods too.
