For those not familiar with the term, "maverick spending" is another way to say off-contract purchasing or purchasing from a non-preferred supplier.
Anybody in our business is constantly bombarded by articles and information about "best in class" companies and how they turn around their Purchasing Departments with projected savings. Unfortunately, actually implementing the savings is as much an art as it is a science since it depends not solely on logic, but also on the cooperation of largely disinterested co-workers across the corporation.
