
1) The pay is better. (OK, I'm sure this is debatable. Personally, I can think of salespeople who are former Buyers, but not any Buyers who are former salespeople. I think that counts for something here.)
2) Many salespeople (at least partially) work from home. Most Buyers work from a corporate office.
3) Many salespeople (at least partially) make their own hours while Buyers usually follow the standard hours of their company.
4) Salespeople are much more likely to get a commission on the sales of an item than a Buyer is to get a commission on the savings achieved from the same transaction.
5) Salespeople get expense accounts.
6) Salespeople get to make all the Buyers happy by giving free samples to all their clients and potential clients. Buyers only get to award the business to one salesperson who is happy, while all the rest involved in the bid are not.
