In Part 1 of the series on Purchasing challenges, I introduced the taboo subject of bad Buyers. In Part 2, we'll talk about what some Buyers do to earn that name.
1) Poor Customer Service Skills - Working with end users is part of the job. Poor skills in this area give the department a negative reputation. Buyers whose voicemail boxes are so full that users can't even leave a message are not going to win fans among end users.
2) Ethics Violators - These people always seem to find corporate gifts they can't refuse. Gifts and trips worth thousands of dollars are never appropriate in our industry. Even if they are given as "thank you" after a lucrative contract has been signed, skeptics and cynics will never believe bribery was not involved. It is much better to avoid the appearance of impropriety completely.
Add your own reason to the list. I look forward to a lively disussion on the topic.
