
There are many articles about the good things that Purchasing professionals accomplish. I have written some myself and done so gladly. I like to highlight individuals and companies that work hard and deserve the recognition.
What about the other side? What about Purchasing people who don't belong in the job they have, the ones who give their departments and the profession a bad name? (Admit it, as soon as you read that last sentence, you immeidatelyt thought of at least oen person with whom you currently work or have worked int he past!)
I've decided to kick off this series of posts about challenges we face in the Procurement field with this taboo topic: Bad Buyers!
You know who they are and so does everybody else in your department or company. They skate through on connections, looks, or just plain luck. Sometimes mediocore is worse than bad. A really bad Buyer, such as one who violates an ethics policy by accepting a bribe during an RFP process will be let go. However, one who is just not that great in the job, but doesn't do any one particular thing truly terribly can coast along for years.
