Does your company have any kind of formal supplier recognition programs? Some may argue these are not necessary since the awarding of continued business should be payment enough. While this may be true, our receipt of our weekly paychecks should be sufficient (provided we earn what we feel is reasonable), but we wouldn't mind some additional recognition now and then and neither will our suppliers.
Two ideas come to mind to get you started if you would like to institute or suggest supplier recognition in your company.
The first is idea is to have semi-formal awards. These don't need to be expensive. Simple plaques from your promotional products vendor and an appreciation lunch at your facility will go a long way. Create different categories such as Most On Time Deliveries, Most Improved Vendor, and Supplier Innovation Award for the supplier that bests solves one of YOUR problems creating a stronger partnership between you.
The second idea is to create two tiers of suppliers. Though this may be a little controversial, don't be afraid to give those who are not on the A list something for which to strive. Separate those suppliers who consistently deliver for you no matter what the circumstance or area of your relationship. The elite group of suppliers might receive preference when it comes to bidding on new business or additional help from you in featuring their brand in your catalog.
It's always sound advice - reward those who deserve it.
