I love to read material such as this that states Sourcing Departments are gaining more respect in organizations. The article quotes information from IBM that indicates companies are increasingly valuing the contributions their Procurement Departments make to their bottom lines.
When thinking about that information, another company that came to mind was Wal-Mart, which is of course notorious for getting good pricing from its vendors. Since it is the Purchasing Department that negotiates with the vendors, it is logical to assume that great value must be placed on that department's ability to obtain those favorable prices.
So now that we know some of the world's largest and most well-known companies are seeing things our way, what about everyone else?
When you're in the trenches every day, how do you feel about this in your own environment?
Do you think the Purchasing Department in your company gets the respect it deserves? Is it valued?
