I just came across a great post comparing being in a cult to contract management! Read it; it is very creative.
The point that stood out most to me was about setting goals. Cult members' lives are highly structured; they know what they are supposed to do at all times. Can you say the same about your work in Purchasing and contract management?
No doubt, you have a ton of things to do every day, but how often have you felt that there were no goals ("strategic" goals) and that you were just running around dealing with one crisis or another? I used to comment at work, "If we spend all our time running around putting out little fires everywhere, how are we ever going to have time to build a new firehouse?"
You will always have to respond to crises as they occur, but try to take the reins and set up regular checks and schedules for all your contract management tasks so you'll be in control of the situation (at least some of the time!) instead of the situation being in control of you.
