I thought the concept of "going around purchasing" went out years ago along with the paper-based PO!
Oh, wait, technology has not completely taken over your Purchasing Department? (None that I have worked in either, but we've tried.) Apparently, paper PO's are not the only throwbacks to an earlier era.
I have been enjoying Lori's Sales Coach Blog. Yesterday, while actually referencing a post from here on PurchaseRealm (thanks, Lori!), she included the phrasing, "...one more confirmation as to why you want to call on executives outside of purchasing, where you can make a case for the full value, not just the price."
I had just read another blog earlier that gave me hope that Purchasing was continuing to gain respect in organizations.
I do understand and empathize with Lori's concern that when dealing with a Buyer who "doesn't get it," she is looking to make her case to someone who does. I almost can't blame her for trying. However, as a Buyer, just the thought that vendors might do this makes me feel like we're taking several steps back.
What do you think?
