There is a crucial and very often overlooked aspect of Purchasing which has a direct impact on the success of our work: End User Communications.
Procurement can set up the best deal in the world with a phenomenal vendor, but if end users don't know about it or don't know how to utilize that vendor, then the spend battle is lost before it begins.
Communications from the Purchasing Department should arrive with the same frequency as a good hobby newsletter - often enough that it's never forgotten, but spaced far enough apart that people don't think, "What do they want this time?" when they see the return e-mail address.
Topics that should be covered on a regular basis include:
- New Vendors
- Purchasing Procedures
- Highlights of a recent Procurement success story and its impact on the company
- End user questions
Communicate with end users and everybody wins.
