It's so easy to complain about vendors and vendor reps in our business. That's a given. Let's not forget about the vendors who ride in on the white horses to rescue us or make things easier for us when we are having issues.
Here are three ways to show your appreciation.
1) Tell the vendor rep and the sales manager that you appreciate the time and effort he or she puts in on your behalf. Better yet, e-mail the manager and copy the rep so they can both make the document part of the rep's review.
2) Actively look for another line of business that you might be able to transfer to this vendor. Everyone wins here because you will be rewarding the vendor rep with higher commissions and you can rest assured this commodity will be handled by a capable vendor.
3) Talk to other buyers about the good vendor. You peers will remember your recommendations when the next bid comes up. Also, offer to act as a reference for the vendor. You will help them by being an enthusiastic supporter and you will network by meeting Buyers from many other companies.
