I just ran a little test in Google. This is what a found for the top 10 results in each category:
"Purchasing Mission Statement" - 9 for universities/colleges and 1 county government result. Sample
"Procurement Mission Statement" - 3 educational institutions, 2 government, and 5 private companies. Sample
"Sourcing Mission Statement" - (total of only 3 results) 1 government result and 2 private companies. Sample
I could have run the test and looked for "Vision Statements" too, but I just wanted to see if those things were still out there.
I remember when the large company I worked for rolled out a Procurement Mission Statement. We had a big meeting. They put up huge posters encased in glass frames on several walls. It went in the company newsletter. Each employee received a 8.5x11 plastic framed version for his or her desk.
Fast forward a year: Could anyone even find one of those posters or frames if they tried? Most of the people threw them out when we moved our department from one building to the other. I rescued some frames from the trash because I hate to discard non-biodegradable items.
Today's challenge # 1: Recite your Purchasing Department's Mission Statement from memory.
Today's Challenge # 2: Stop laughing at Challenge # 1. At least tell me you know where to FIND your Purchasing Department's Mission Statement.
